  1. Punakha Perched high up on a cliff side overlooking the green Paro valley, Paro Taktsang is a small Buddhist monastery and a cultural icon of Bhutan. The temple complex was built in 1692, around the most famous of the thirteen "tiger lair" caves in which Guru Padmasambhava--also known as the Second Buddha--had meditated in the 8th century. Getting to this sacred site requires a bit of uphill trekking, but it is well worth the effort. The culture of bhutan is fully reflected in Thimphu in literature, religion, customs, and national dress code, the monastic practices of the monasteries, music, and dance, and in the media. tshechu is an important festival when mask dances, popularly known as cham dance, are performed in the courtyards of the tashichho dzong in Thimphu. It is a four-day festival held every year in September or October, on dates corresponding to the bhutanese calender.

Bumthang is one of the most beautiful and sacred valleys in Bhutan. The main town in the valley is Jakar. Bhutan's only brewery, brewing Red Panda wheat beer, is in Jakar. Bumthang is divided into four gewogs, namely Chhoekhor, Tang, Chhume and Ura.


Haa is one of the least developed and remote valley in western Bhutan though it is just about three hours drive away from the Paro International Airport. Bordering with Tibet and Sikkim, the picturesque and scenic Haa valley is often underrated and left out from the usual tourist itinerary.


The Phobjikha Valley is located in the Wangdue Phodrang District (Phobji and Gangteng Gewogs) in central Bhutan. The valley has about 4,500 people (4,716 has been reported) residing in Gangten and other villages, and in the Gangten Monastery that is strategically located on a spur above the valley.
